the beeswax-y process

These pieces were individually sculpted by hand, beginning as chunks of Colorado beeswax. They are transformed into metal using the ancient lost wax casting method. Plaster is poured in a container with wax models, creating a mold surrounding the models. The wax is then burned away, leaving empty cavities in their shapes. Molten metal pours into the cavities, cools, and creates a metal replacement of the wax models. The raw castings are then cleaned up and polished back in the Mirage Metals studio.
